Fotografia
Two vintage studio still photographs from the 1966 film noir. Snipe printed on the verso of one image. Based on the stage play by Alexandre Bisson, popularized in novel form by J.W. McConaughy, and the seventh film version. Holly Parker (Turner) is married to respected diplomat Clay Anderson (Forsythe), but they rarely get to see each other, leading Holly to pursue other men, notably carefree playboy, Phil Benton (Montalban). Phil soon dies in an accident, and Holly, panicked, flees to Mexico, leaving behind her young son. Addicted to drugs and making a living as a prostitute in a cheap hotel in Mexico, she meets Dan Sullivan (Meredith), a criminal who tries to involve Holly in a blackmail scheme. When she discovers her husband Clay is the target, she kills Sullivan. Unable to afford a lawyer, she is assigned a dedicated young public defender, whom she soon recognizes as her son. Keeping her identity secret so as not to tarnish her son's image of her, Holly is tried as "Madame X." Shot on location in California. 8 x 10 inches. Very Good plus light toning and light edgewear. Grant US.

Aggiungi al carrelloSoft cover. Condizione: Good. Scarce paperback, iv + 227 pages. "Gifts and exchange division Harvard college library" stamp and residue of a removed label inside the front cover. Else interior is very good, clean, bright, untanned, with unmarked text. Faint age-spotting on page edges externally. Covers show regular shelfwear, wear to the tips of corners. -- A Jewish survivor of the Holocaust who is accused of murder; two portfolios containing unusual historical documents; a Viennese psychologist whose extramarital adventure places him in a situation where he must choose between the wife whom he truly loves and a beautiful, seductive Spanish businesswoman; a mysterious librarian with terrorist connections; two Spanish bishops whose commitment to the past limits their ability to deal humanely with contemporary reality; the city of Lerida, where a thirteenth-century religious debate inaugurated the Inquisition - all of these are key elements in a novel that critically illuminates timeless threats to the health of fundamental human relationships: personal prejudice, religious and ethnic intolerance, subjective interpretation of history, provincialism, unscrupulous self-interest, failure to communicate, insensitivity, infidelity. In the process of uncovering the truth about the shooting death of a fascist innkeeper, the story's characters are forced to examine themselves in the mirror of historical tragedy and come to grips with their own vulnerability and their responsibility for destructive attitudes and behaviors that contribute to the perpetuation of violence, misunderstanding, inflicted misery, and injustice.
