A sound ex-library set with gilt callnumbers on the spines, library labels on the (replaced) front free endpapers, and small library stamps on the versos of the title-pages. Top edges coloured blue, with slight colour bleeding at the top of some pages, generally a Good (though incomplete) set.

A reasonable reference set of Lowndes which seems to have been rebacked in black library cloth with the original boards and leather corners retained and stained black to match; boards a little rubbed, spine-titling is limited to an indication of the volume (eg A-C) and is in different sizes on different volumes, contents Good (one or two marginal annotations).

While the prices shown are now only of historical interest, and there are some inaccuracies, the work remains useful for other information. Letter to Mr Cokayne from Constance Hugh-Smith of MountClare, Roehampton pasted to endpapers of Volume 2, identifying the subject of a book listed in the Volume.

A largely well-preserved ex-library set of the special large-paper issue, gilt number on spines, library labels on pastedown endpapers, small library stamps on prelims and last page of each volume, library marks on versos of the title-pages, front free endpaper of vol III partly adhered to front pastedown endpaper on which is pasted the bookplate of James Worsley Pennyman. Lowndes "Address" in volume 1 (pp [1]-iii ) is bound after the preface (pp v-xii). Corners a little worn, spine-bands slightly rubbed, Vol IV slightly torn at head of spine, otherwise a Very Good set.
