Aggiungi al carrelloSoft cover. Condizione: Fair. No Jacket. 1st Edition, Illustrated Edition. Scarce 1927 first edition of this charming early phonics and beginning-reader primer by noted educators Lucile Allard and William A. McCall, beautifully illustrated throughout by Katharine Pallesen. Published by the Johnson Publishing Company of Richmond,… Virginia during a period of significant innovation in American elementary reading instruction, Teeny Tiny Rimes was designed to teach beginning readers through simple vocabulary, rhythmic verse, repetition, and engaging illustrations. McCall, a professor at Teachers College, Columbia University, was one of the leading figures in educational measurement and reading instruction during the early twentieth century, helping shape classroom practices used throughout American schools. Johnson Publishing produced numerous educational texts and primers that have become increasingly collectible among historians of education and collectors of early children's books. The volume is illustrated throughout with delightful black-and-white drawings depicting children, animals, nursery rhyme characters, and early reading exercises. These illustrations retain excellent clarity and remain one of the book's strongest features. This copy is complete but shows honest evidence of use. The illustrated boards exhibit moderate to heavy wear, including rubbing, edge wear, chipped corners, and significant deterioration along the spine with losses to the paper covering. The binding remains intact with all pages present and securely attached, although the hinges have been stressed from use. Interior pages are generally clean with light age toning, scattered foxing, and occasional small stains. There are children's pencil drawings and doodles on the front endpapers, title page, and one decorative preliminary page, including balloons, stars, a Christmas tree, and other juvenile sketches. These markings do not extend throughout the text, and the majority of the illustrated reading pages remain clean and unmarked. A few corner creases and minor moisture staining are present on the endpapers. Although condition issues prevent this from being a collector-grade example, it remains a desirable and increasingly scarce example of an early American reading primer from the late 1920s. Condition Fair. Illustrated paper-covered boards heavily worn with rubbing, edge wear, chipped corners, and considerable spine deterioration with losses to the paper covering. Binding remains intact with all pages present. Hinges worn but holding. Interior generally clean with light age toning, scattered foxing, occasional small stains, and a few corner creases. Children's pencil drawings and doodles on front endpapers, title page, and one preliminary page. Text pages and illustrations largely remain clean. No ownership signatures observed. A complete, solid reading copy of a scarce educational primer. Historical Significance Published during the rapid evolution of American public education in the 1920s, Teeny Tiny Rimes reflects the movement away from rote memorization toward phonics-based reading instruction using short, rhythmic texts and engaging illustrations. Co-author William A. McCall was associated with Teachers College, Columbia University, one of the nation's leading centers for educational research, and helped influence elementary reading instruction for decades. Johnson Publishing Company was an important regional educational publisher whose primers and classroom readers are considerably scarcer today than contemporary series issued by larger national publishers. Katharine Pallesen (illustratore).
