Limited first edition and first trade edition of Lucius Shepard's "The Scalehunter's Beautiful Daughter," a "novella built around an independent, separate sequence of events from the acclaimed Shepard short story "The Man Who Painted the Dragon Griaule" which was nominated for Hugo, World Fantasy, and Nebula Awards. The book begins and ends with the paralyzed dragon who constitutes the setting for each story. Catherine, the heroine, determines her own fate. No knights in shining armour come to her rescue from the drooling horde of mental defects who imprison her. She has no suitor to aid her, no loyal family servant does her dirty work. And, in the end, nobody slays the dragon. As the dust jacket proclaims, "this is a story of betrayal and vengeance, lust and violence. This slim octavo volume is bound in black leather with gilt lettering and has a color plate mounted on the front cover. It's housed in a folding black leather chemise which is similarly lettered in gilt with a color plate mounted on its front panel. Inside the front panel of the chemise is a mounted, signed color photo of the author; inside the rear panel of the chemise is a handwritten page of manuscripts, signed by the author at the bottom. All participants in the making of this book have signed it on the limitation page. There is a clear, hard plastic shell inside the chemise which holds the book in place.
