Museums nowadays are moving away from the old habit of teaching their visitor in a static and lecturing way. Instead they focus on aspects like participation and the involvement of their visitors. Additionally they began to outreach for other institutions like schools or universities to provide a worthy educational experience for both sides. The present museums must reflect the voices, needs and interests of the communities they serve, in order to survive.Therefore museums are evolving away from being isolated islands of teaching to places of gathering and exchange. They become forums that not just display objects but also invite discussions, evoke concerns and foster ideas like critical thinking within their community. It is obvious that the way how museums interact with their community has become broader and not necessarily easier to articulate. But what are communities Usually a community is a group of people that shares a physical space like a room, a city or a country. Furthermore a community can also share certain traits, characteristics or ideals. Communities can interact which each other and establish a certain social identity. First of all the various contexts shall be presented (Historical context, men and women during the Great Depression and Hollywood during the Great Depression). After that follows a short analysis of two other important aspects, the Woman s film and the aspect of race in expedition films. Both of them are strongly interwoven with the question about gender roles in 'King Kong'. Finally the main characters in 'King Kong' are going to be analyzed in view of the gender roles they embody and also how they change.

The alien will be categorized and… characterized as a hybrid form and embodies three different types of monstrosity which intermingle. In order to support this thesis various film scenes and motifs will be analyzed. At the beginning, I will perform a general introduction of the alien as figure in cultural history. Following this, I am going to introduce Tzvetan Todorov's concept of the Fantastic as the type of genre that can be related heavily to the film Under the Skin.The main part will be occupied by an analysis of several forms of monstrosity in the film which is divided into three parts, the alien as monstrous serial killer, the alien as monster because of its alien nature and at last the alien as a symbol for female monstrosity. Within the literature that is going to be used, especially Kristeva s concept of abjection and Judith Butler s theory regarding performance and performativity shall be applied as two of the most important concept of the recent research. Regarding monstrosity the work of Cohen with its seven theses about monstrosity is used to provide a foundation for the analysisThe film Under the Skin was directed by Jonathan Glazer and bases on the novel of the same name by Michel Faber. It was not a big box office hit but received intense praise by critics and was described as one of the best films in 2014, not only because of its mix of different genres. The movie was released on the 14th of March and deals with a female Alien, played by Scarlett Johansson, who is killing men in Scottish towns. Many of the roles in the film were played by non-professional actors and other scenes were unscripted and filmed with hidden cameras to produce authentic scenes.

It is an independent art museum located in the Downtown of Pittsburgh, which is dedicated to the pop culture of comics and cartoons. Established in 2007 it is one of only a handful of museums which deal with comics and cartoons in the whole United States, together with the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco, the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art in New York and the Schulz Museum. It is an independent non-profit organization that is mainly volunteer run. In comparison to other museums the Toonseum is of a smaller nature. Nevertheless on average there are 100 pieces exhibited all the time. The exhibitions rotate every month in order to provide a variety of content for visitors. At the beginning the Toonseum was designed to be a partner institution of the Pittsburgh Children s museum before it became an independent institution and moved to Pittsburgh s Cultural District in 2009. It was founded by Joe Woe, a cartoonist and storyteller who also worked for the Children s museum and who provided a lot of the objects for the museum from his own private collection in the first months.

Inwiefern wurde die Galerie, als ein Vertreter der halleschen Kunst von dieser Diskussion beeinflusst und wie kam es dazu, dass sie es schaffte eine sich von der staatlich-propagierten Kunstauffassung unterscheidende Auffassung zu vertreten, sollte so eine Beeinflussung nicht zustande gekommen sein. Um diese These angemessen erläutern zu können ist es daher notwendig am Anfang einen kurzer Abriss über die Malerei im Halle der Nachkriegsjahre, sowie über die seit den 50er Jahren einsetzende Formalismusdiskussion zu präsentieren.

Dabei spielen besonders di…e berühmten minoischen Palastanlagen, wie etwa der berühmte Palast von Knossos, eine wichtige Rolle. Die Überreste dieser Paläste lassen sich auch heute noch bestaunen und liefern uns somit Einblicke in einen der spannendsten Abschnitte in der Geschichte Kretas. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit soll es um die archäologischen Besonderheitenden des minoischen Palasts und der Stadt von Mallia gehen. Die Arbeit ist dabei in zwei Teile gegliedert. Zu Beginn wird ein kurzer Abriss über Chronologie und allgemeine Informationen stehen, dem dann ein paar Worte zur Forschungsgeschichte folgen. Anschließend werde ich den Palast in einer Art Rundgang vorstellen, indem ich mit den Getreidespeichern im Südwesten beginne. Darauf folgt der Westflügel des Palastes, unterteilt in den Aspekt des Eingangs bzw. der Lagerräume auf der einen und den Aspekt als ein religiöses Zentrum auf der anderen Seite. Dann folgt der zentrale Platz, sowie der südliche Teil der minoischen Palastanlage, bevor ich mich dann letztendlich dem Nordflügel und Nordwestflügel zuwende und dabei auch u. a. auf die sogenannte 'Banketthalle' eingehe. Im zweiten Teil gehe ich dann auf die minoische Stadt Mallia ein, welche den Palast direkt umgab. Es werden die wichtigsten Gebäude und deren Funktionen vorgestellt, jedoch liegt auch ein besonderes Augenmerk auf der Beziehung zwischen Stadt und Palast in Mallia. Der vorgestellte Themenkomplex ist bis heute schon von mehreren Wissenschaftlern untersucht worden. Im Folgenden erwähne ich daher nur einige der wichtigsten Autoren, auf die ich mich im Laufe meiner Arbeit bezogen habe. Für diese Arbeit waren besonders die Arbeiten von J.W. Graham 'The Palaces of Crete' und von G. Cadogan 'The Palaces of Minoan Crete' von Bedeutung, da beide alle möglichen Aspekte des minoischen Palastes von Mallia, aber auch der angrenzenden Stadt behandeln.

Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit sollen die römischen Statuenaufstellungen auf der Akropolis untersucht und vorgestellt werden.Um eine Grundlage für die weitere Thematik zu schaffen, wird am Anfang ein kurzer Abriss über die Forschungsgeschichte und die Bedeutung der Akropolis für die Identitätsbildung stehen, bevor auf die bauliche Entwicklung seit der archaischen Zeit eingegangen wird.Anschließend werden die römischen Statuenweihungen der Akropolis behandelt. Darauf aufbauend soll die Technik der Wiederverwertung, welche ein wesentlicher Aspekt hinsichtlich römischer Ehrenstatuen auf der Akropolis war, ausführlich und anhand einiger Beispiele dargelegt werden. Dabei wird neben den unterschiedlichen Arten der Wiederverwendung auch auf die Frage der Portraitköpfe und eventuelle programmatische Beziehungen eingegangen.Zum Schluss folgt dann ein kurzer Ausblick über die Perspektiven dieses Forschungsthemas für die Zukunft. Die Informationen stammen dabei aus unterschiedlicher Literatur, wobei aber besonders die Aufsätze von Ralf Krumeich herangezogen wurden, da die generelle Literatursituation bezüglich dieses Themas sehr übersichtlich ist, wie auch in der Forschungsgeschichte erläutert wird.

In the society those Movements are standing next to other more institutionalized ways of protests, so they are an actor among others. Today Social Movements represent an important part of the social landscape. They are different movements dealing with a lot of topics like abortion, human and civil rights, environmental protection, women etc. Also the Movements can have a global or a local nature. According to the development of Social Movements the researchers David A. Snow, Sarah A. Soule and Hanspeter Kriesi suggested that the society of the 21st century can be characterized as a movement society. One important step for the development and the proliferation of Social Movements are the 1960s. Even if there is no consensus among the scholars about the exact impact, the 1960s form a remarkable step in the history of Social Movements. In Germany this step was represented by the Student Movement of 1968 that, even if most of the political goals the movement wanted to achieve failed, played an important role.Social movements are fuzzy phenomena and moving targets so it is difficult to give a definition about them. In structural terms a social movement is like a network of individuals, groups and or organizations. A network has no top and no clear center that could steer and control the whole of its activities Also the use of collective public protest is a key strategy of any social movement to pursue their goal. These strategies can also include the use of violence. This homework is going to show the connection of the Social Movement in Germany 1968, their image and their use of violence, together with the most extreme form of violence, the terrorism of the RAF.

Inwieweit… sie ein Teil des komplexen Prestige-/Ehrensystems des Adels waren und somit zur Grundlage der Herrschaft gehörten, soll diese Arbeit erläutern.Zu Beginn wird ein kurzer Abriss über die Städte und deren Entwicklung im Mittelalter stehen, dem der Sachverhalt des 'Adels in der Stadt' folgt. Hierbei wird auf das Verhältnis zwischen Adligen und Stadtbewohnern eingegangen und warum es den Adel überhaupt in die Stadt zog. Anschließend liegt das Augenmerk auf den adligen Stadthöfen einschließlich einer Definition, der Architektur und der Funktion der Höfe. Anhand von drei Beispielstädten sollen darüberhinaus die vielfältigen Situationen von Adelshöfen in mittelalterlichen Städten angeführt werden. Der zweite Themenkomplex setzt sich mit der adligen Festkultur auseinander, wobei neben Sinn und Zweck eines Festes im Mittelalter und der eigentlichen Ausrichtung bzw. Durchführung auch der Begriff der Ehre und des Prestiges erläutert werden soll. Die Informationen stammen aus unterschiedlicher Literatur, wo neben den Werken von Werner Paravicini, Regina Schäfer, Arend Mindermann und Jaques Heers besonders das Werk von Marcus Weidner hinsichtlich seiner Forschungen in Münster erwähnt werden sollte. Dort ist einer der seltenen Definitionsansätze eines Stadthofes zu finden. Der Themenkomplex an sich ist bis heute von der Forschung nur unzureichend untersucht. So beschränkte man sich lange Zeit nur auf Einzelobjekte oder nur auf die Architektur, ohne übergreifende Zusammenhänge und den sozio-kulturellen Hintergrund zu behandeln. In der jüngeren Forschung beschäftigt sich neben den Geschichtswissenschaften aber auch die Rechts-, Sozial- und Kunstwissenschaft mit diesem Sachverhalt.
