Zwar liegen von den Klassikern der Exilliteratur exellente Übersetzungen in deutscher Sprache vor, doch fehlt es oft an weitergehenden Untersuchungen ihres Werkes. Fast vollkommen unbekannt sind die - vor allem im bezug auf die deutsch-polnische Problematik und die Entwicklung Europas - weitsichtigen politischen Visionen des Exils, hier vor allem das Engagement der Pariser Exilzeitschrift »Kultura« um Jerzy Giedroyc.Das vorliegende Buch unternimmt einen ersten Schritt, diese Lücke in der Perzeption der polnischen Kultur in Deutschland zu schließen. Fünfzehn renommierte Literaturwissenschaftler, Historiker, Journalisten und Politikwissenschaftler aus Polen und Deutschland ziehen eine Bilanz der Literatur und des politischen Denkens Polens im Exil zwischen 1945-1990. Einige von ihnen, wie Jerzy Pomianowski, Leszek Szaruga oder Wlodzimierz Bolecki, haben selbst über viele Jahre mit Exilzeitschriften und Exilverlagen zusammengearbeitet.
