William Hervey Allen (1889 - 1949) was an American author who served as a Lieutenant in the 28th (keystone) Division, United States Army during the World War I and fought in the Aisne-Marne offensive July-August, 1918. He wrote "Toward the Flame", a nonfictional account of his experiences in the war. Allen is best known for his work Anthony Adverse. He also planned a series of novels about colonial America called The Disinherited. He completed three works in the series: The Forest and the Fort (1943), Bedford Village (1944), and Toward the Morning (1948). The novels tell the story of Salathiel Albine, a frontiersman kidnapped as a boy by Shawnee Indians in the 1750s. All three works were collected and published as the City in the Dawn. Allen also wrote Israfel (1926), a biography of American writer Edgar Allan Poe. For a period of time, Allen taught at the Porter Military Academy in Charleston, South Carolina. In the 1940s he co-edited the Rivers of America Series with Carl Carmer. Allen was a good friend of Marjory Stoneman Douglas and instigated her writing The Everglades: River of Grass. Allen was close friends with Robert Frost and Ogden Nash.

Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. What if the boy who offered his lunch to Jesus was more than just a passing detail in the Gospel story? In The Boy and the Bread, Allen Lyle invites readers into a thoughtful, imaginative retelling of one of the most familiar miracles in the Bible: the feeding of the five thousand. Told through the eyes of a young boy named Shimon, this story explores what might have happened before, during, and after the miracle that began with five loaves and two fish.Blending biblical faithfulness with carefully crafted imagination, this book follows Shimon from early childhood in Bethsaida through formative years shaped by family, faith, and quiet acts of obedience. Along the way, readers witness ordinary moments that slowly prepare him for an extraordinary day. The miracle itself is not treated as spectacle, but as a deeply personal turning point in a young life. The story does not stop there.Years later, as Jesus' ministry draws crowds and controversy, Shimon finds himself once again standing near the Teacher-this time as a child welcomed when others tried to turn him away. In this final encounter, the book gently asks a question Scripture leaves unanswered: What if Jesus remembered the boy who once trusted Him with a simple lunch? This is not a retelling meant to replace Scripture. It is a companion story designed to help readers slow down, reflect, and see familiar passages from a fresh perspective.Written in a warm, accessible style with moments of quiet humor and reflection, The Boy and the Bread is ideal for readers who enjoy devotional fiction, thoughtful biblical imagination, and stories that encourage faith through everyday obedience.A fictional account of factual events-written to inspire believers to dig a little deeper. The Boy and the Bread is a faith-based inspirational novel that imaginatively explores the life of the unnamed boy from the feeding of the five thousand. Blending biblical accuracy with thoughtful fiction. This item is printed on demand. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. Wonderworking is a short theological reflection on the reality, purpose, and present-day silence of miracles, written for believers wrestling with the gap between the spectacular biblical narrative and the comparatively quiet modern Christian experience. The book is not an apologetic for cessation nor a charismatic manifesto; instead, it seeks to diagnose misunderstanding and rekindle expectancy rooted in Scripture rather than technique. Through this reflection, the goal of the author is to increase the instances of answered prayer. This item is printed on demand.
