Hard Back. Condizione: Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. First Edition. 23 Pages. Dark green cloth with gold spine lettering. Dust jacket is plain white with no lettering. This edition is limited to 250 numbered copies of which this is number 8. There is a five-line inscription by the author on the presentation page that is dated August 11, 1975. Interior text pages are flawless. The first of the Four Portraits (Biographies or Memoirs) in this book is about John E. Snyder. It is different from the other three as it was written especially for inclusion here. The Portrait about George Ross Eshleman is reprinted from the 1945 Lancaster Law Review, and the Portrait about John E. Malone is reprinted from the 1948 Lancaster Law Review. The fourth Portrait about William Huestis Keller is reprinted from the 1949 Lancaster Law Review. In the foreword to Obiter Scripta -- a book that the author published in 1971, he said that he would never write another book. These Portraits are so slight that Windolph says they can hardly be regarded as a book. The frontispiece of this book is a reproduction of a painting by Charles Demuth called After Sir Christopher Wren. Mr. Demuth was born and brought up in a building located on the south side of East King Street in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. John E. Snyder maintained his office at that same location. The author began his practice of law in this same building. A competent critic once said that Demuth was perhaps the finest watercolorist who ever lived. The author was told that Demuth's painting After Sir Christopher Wren was inspired by the Lancaster County Court House. That painting is reproduced here and is from The Dial Collection, Worcester Art Museum.
