Bayette's novels, traditional fairytale discourse is the source of many borrowings, defining the plot, composition, system of archetypical images and stylistics of its texts. The archetype as an invariant of a fairytale plot or motif is also actualised in the form of a whole series of binary oppositions constituting the archetypical core of the folklore tale: sleep - waking, captivity - liberation, destruction - restoration, prohibition - violation of prohibition. The role status of characters can also be conditioned by traditional opposition: for example, the author of wishes is a forced executor of wishes. However, the main binary structure that defines the originality of the art picture of the world of fairytale novels Bayette, can be conventionally presented as a confrontation between static and dynamism. Staticism is understood as a predictable adherence to a certain algorithm of actions in the limited space of a classical plot, and dynamism is understood as freedom to break a given scheme, freedom to creatively transform a fairytale canon. Turning once again to the fairytale, the author, just like its heroes, rethinks what is known to create their own worlds and encourage the reader to create their own stories.…

The relationship between writer and reader, look inside oneself, own consciousness was reflected on writers such as James Joyce. Irish author, worried about British-Irish conflict and engaged in nationalist question, made the Ulysses novel partially nationalistic in its intention. There is no doubt that in Ulysses, Joyce criticizes the utopian and cultural past of Ireland and ridicules any signs of English chauvinism and Anti- Semitism. At the same time, the author shows his hostility towards the Irish cultural nationalism, and the Catholic and Protestant ideologies. He also revises the concept of ¿Nation¿ which has been officially approved at the beginning of nineteenth century. The question remains which themes associated with nationalism does Joyce introduce in the novel. How does he present the characters and relationships between them These topics are important to observe in order to reveal Joyce¿s perception of the history. It also highlights the effectsthis social conflict had on African American identity, the main reasons that fostered the division of American society, and possible solutions offered by Du Bois in his effort to address the reader in order to tackle this conflict.First, this work explains Du Bois's theory of 'the Veil of Race' as a social construct. For Du Bois, the meaning of race is the production of racial hierarchy, ideology and dominantculture. Next, this work highlights the problems caused by the veil of race within the American nation, such as social segregation and racism. It gives examples of the separatelives of blacks and whites and racial prejudices toward African Americans. It reveals how Du Bois identifies with these problems from his own experiences and explains why the dominant culture is unable to see those who reside on the other side of the veil.Further, this work reveals the effects of the fatal division of the American nation on African American identity. It represents Du Bois's concept of 'double-consciousness',that is the duality of African American identity of being both a 'Negro' and an American. Double-consciousness has dehumanizing effects on the spiritual life of black people. In thisrespect, this work gives examples of strong emotionalism and inner degradation of black people. It illustrates African Americans' feelings of discouragement and pain, with the sorrow songs as a reflection of the black peoples' despair and Du Bois's own experience of misery. Finally, this work reveals how Du Bois tries to appeal to the reader. Du Bois emphasizes humanity, education, and self-knowledge as the key to respect, equality, freedom, and democracy. He also puts emphasis on spiritual power over the power of social hierarchy and dominant culture, which serve the interests of the rich. To conclude, Du Bois's main goal is to negotiate between the two worlds in one country in order to achieve integration of the 'Negro' race into US society. It confirms that Marxist theories which incline to the presence of ideological views in the media agenda still have influence in a democracy nowadays. The first part of this essays deals with the role of the media as a provider of political knowledge. The mass media play an important role in the formation of public views, because of being a basic institution that provides the communication between politicians and the public. But the misrepresentation of politics through the media shapes negative views on politics and makes people doubtful towards political system. The second part of this essay is concerned with the media as an implementer of governmental directives. The media institutions often undergo the influences of the political economy and governments, and the media output is to some extent formed under their impact. The broadcasters distributing State propaganda and tricking the public serve the government. Although there are institutions aiming to protect the media content against the external impact, the governments and depositors still have access to the broadcasting and press. The third part of the essay deals with the media as an agent of majority of views. But despite of the representation of plurality of views, the media agenda is unable to develop political debate among the citizens. Although the public receive sufficient information about different sides of political life, the interest in traditional politics is declining and the political debate as well. In other words, despite of being a great provider of political knowledge, introducing a plurality of views and being controlled by a watchdog, the British media do not fulfil the major key points of the liberal media theory.…

The major change in the development of comparative formation across time span is the shift in American English from synthetic to analytic comparatives. The Standard English shows another pattern of development: the change from analytic to synthetic comparatives. Secondly, the major differences between British and American varieties in the usage of adjective forms should be explained. Focusing on the syllabic structure and frequency of adjectives, it will be shown that American English prefers more analytic comparatives than British English. Additionally, American variety uses fewer comparatives of both synthetic and analytic kind than British variety (Gonzalez-Diaz 2008, Hilpert 2007, Mondorf 2009, Kytö and Romaine 2000). Moreover, the investigation of different text types and complexity of those texts will help to explain the difference in usage of adjective comparison between two national standards. Finally, the development of American English in relation to British English will be outlined. In most cases, American English develops independently from British English in terms of adjective formation. American variety prefers innovations whereas British variety tends to preserve older features. This supports the idea that American English does not follow the steps of British English in terms of comparative structure change. So, to regard the American variety as an instance of colonial lag should be misleading. A better understanding of these issues will be presented in the following pages.…

For example, Foakes is fascinated by the diversity of the play's themes saying, '[i]t is unsparing in its depiction of human cruelty and misery, but also rich in its portrayals of goodness, devotion, loyalty and self-sacrifice' (1). He adds that '.its language and its imagery, have encountered many to see the play in terms of universal values, as a kind of objective correlative for the spiritual journey through [the] life of [the] suffering Man' (Foakes 1997, 1). Foakes is insisting that the main plot and the sub-plot of the tragic heroes, known as Lear and Gloucester, are worth considering because both comprise many tragic events. First of all, the main plot for the character, Lear, should be regarded because it seems to be more tragic and complex. Reading the tragedy, it becomes obvious that Lear, throughout the play, undergoes a gradual development of his identity. The way he experiences this change is important to follow, because it gives the readers a better insight into his changing personality. First, Lear s true identity will be represented in this paper through the abdication scene and banishment of Cordelia: '[t]he proud and egotistical king of the first scene, who cannot tell the difference between love and flattery.' (Green 1992, 171) unfairly divides his kingdom between his three daughters. Secondly, Lear s wandering in search of self will be shown after being dishonoured by his ungrateful daughters in the storm scene. After losing his power, his daughters, and his house, Lear begins to lose his mind, and in trying to find the reason of his suffering becomes mad. Finally, Lear s ripeness will be introduced after his meeting with Gloucester and reconciliation with Cordelia. Now Lear gets a new insight into himself, finds an answer to his madness, repents, and reveals himself to his banished daughter. So, this paper will show that insensible Lear, who values his authority above all, learns to understand the true feelings and to be human only after going through the grievous journey from the loss of his status as king, through his sufferings, to self-knowledge and self-revelation. Griffith, was 'hailed as a picture without peer' and praised for being one of the most successful silent films by the audience of its time (Rylance 1). At the same time, however, it became the subject of a great dispute over its racial politics. Griffith, for example, partly denies critiques of racial implications in his film. Using black stereotypes in the Birth, his main purpose was to depict the historical reality of the American past. His aim was revealed in the following statement from the film: 'This is an historical presentation of the Civil War and Reconstruction Period, and is not meant to reflect on any race or people today' (1:28:13). Referring to the Jim Crow period, when blacks were subordinated and exploited, Griffith intended 'partly to show the undeserved and unearned prosperity of blacks during Reconstruction' (Wallace 87). In other words, Griffith's purpose was to emphasize the supremacy and restored rule of the whites in the antebellum South.This paper analyzes the black stereotypes in The Birth of a Nation. In particular, it is concerned with the characters played in blackface such as the Uncle Tom, the Mammy, the Jezebel (Lydia Brown) and the Brutal Black Buck (Sylas Lynch). It will examine how these character types fit to the black stereotypes which existed since slavery and became popular in American life. Through an analysis of the characters, this paper will also reveal Griffith's position toward racial justice and American identity.…

It explores the question of how things of domesticity in the story are incorporated in narrators emotional and physical lives, how objects come to serve as a mediator of interiority, phantasy, and longing of the narrator, how the narrator follows the path of inanimate objects, and how these objects act upon her.In 'The Yellow Wallpaper', Gilman depicts the feminist consciousness of oppression and injustice mirrored in private life of the nameless narrator; and gives the readers an example of the nineteenth century woman's life in realms of marriage, maternity, and domesticity. Gilman's short story is an example of a female protest against the negligent treatment of Victorian women in patriarchal society. She represents the relations of domination, power, and control by the relationship of the female narrator and her husband, John.However, the most significant point in this story, is the portrayal of the female narrator and her emotional engagement with objects of domesticity, which becomes the reflection of her relationship with John. For example, Bill Brown points out that capitalism and socialism created material culture that developed strong emotional attachments of humans to things. He emphasizes that engagement with material environment, passion for possession, accumulation, and consumption enabled humans 'the feeling of success and the feel of identity'. In 'The Yellow Wallpaper', the narrator inhabiting the world of things begins to attribute the special value and the meaning to things, which gives her not a sense of success but rather that of failure and deprivation.…
