Ah Cheu, whose legal name was Loh Chui, was the Cantonese nanny who helped raise Arthur MacArthur IV (MacArthur's only child), and accompanied them during the March 1942 escape from Corregidor-a decision he later defended on the grounds that she had been with his son "since Arthur's birth" and would likely have been killed if left behind.
