Internally, the text block is bright and firmly set, though there is a hint of expected light spotting to the very top edge; the front and bottom edges remain crisp and clean. The original, unclipped dust wrapper displays some minor surface soiling and gentle toning, particularly to the rear panel and extremities, alongside a touch of rubbing at the spine ends, but it is entirely free from any significant tears or loss, remaining a highly presentable example. Catalogue Note: This is the true first edition of the initial volume in what would eventually become a highly regarded three-volume set, published individually before the subsequent volumes were realised in 1977 and 1981.
