Dabei ist der Einsatz des Internets nicht ohne Auswirkungen auf die Recherchequalität geblieben. Welche Auswirkungen das sind, wurde im Rahmen dieser, von der LfM initiierten Studie, untersucht. Wie die Ergebnisse zeigen, gehört die Internetrecherche inzwischenzum Arbeitsalltag von Journalistinnen und Journalisten. Ihr Vorteil liegt insbesondere in der Schnelligkeit der Informationsbeschaffung im Vergleich zur Offline-Recherche. Allerdings findet eine Prüfung der Online-Quellen kaum noch statt. Ferner zeugt die hohe Relevanz der Online-Angebote redaktioneller Medien von einer gesteigertenSelbstreferentialität im Journalismus, d. h. der Bezug eigener Berichterstattung auf bereits Berichtetes. Die Studie gibt darüber hinaus konkrete Handlungsempfehlungendazu, wie die Recherchequalität optimiert und die Recherchekompetenz gestärkt werden kann.
