In her late '60s, Lawrence "left her London flat for a remote coastguard's house in the north of Scotland," where she wrote this "very personal book, full of beguiling creatures and fresh insights." Gift inscription to previous owner, w/additional i…nscription by Lawrence, at bottom of front end paper. Interestingly, the non-authorial gift inscription is signed by "Cecil & Pat," the couple to whom the book is dedicated. Pine cloth w/gilt spine lettering, illustrated endpapers, 144 pages. Bumped corners/spine ends, diagonal/mainly horizontal impressions/creases across covers (since these match similar lines on the dust jacket, it would seem that this is a flaw from the printing process), in price-clipped, moderately edgeworn dust jacket w/light rubbing, impressions/scratches, two quarter-inch tears to top edge of front panel. Size: 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Louis Mackay (illustratore). Inscribed & Signed by Author. Book.
