Locative adverbs are words that denote location and often correspond to prepositional phrases introduced by the preposition 'at' in English. The author finds that proper names can appear with thre…e locative endings (-Î Î , -Πε, and -Πεν) and as datives used as locative adverbs. Orators like Lysias and Isocrates favor the locative and use these forms liberally. The prevalent view among later writers, however, is that such forms are not as refined as the corresponding prepositional phrase. Despite this, the author presents evidence that shows that the locative and the prepositional phrase coexist for a long time before the prepositional phrase ultimately becomes the standard form. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. The Brotherhood Movement, which arose across multiple Protestant denominations in the early years of the Twentieth Century, was described by one contemporary observer as "a modern vehicle for the expression of virile Christianity and for emphasizing the distinctly masculine appeal of religion" (McFarland (ed), Encyclopedia of Sunday Schools and Religious Education. NY: 1915). This periodical evidently uncommon; OCLC notes a single location (Yale, a single issue); not seen in commerce.

In october 1836 Wöhler wrote that he had discovered a way to transform amygdalin to oil of bitter almonds and hydrocyanid acis, by distilling it with manganese and sulfuric acid, and he invited Liebig to join in pursuing the topic. Two days later he made a more remarkable discovery. It had occurred to him that perhaps thetransformation of amygdalin could be effected by the albumin in the almonds, in a manner similar to the action of yeast in sugar.Wöhler suspected that the decomposition was an example of what Berzelius had recently defined as catalysis. Liebig and Wöhler then divided up the detailed examination of the properties and composition of amygdalin. They precipitated from the emulsion of almonds a substance which when dissolved retain its action. They named the active substance "emulsion". Its effectiveness in very small quantities confirmed that it acted like yeast."(DSB VIII, p. 342).

This paper, which was published at the same year in "Comptes Rendues" (3 Fevrier), is the most importent on…the theory of structural types and the nomenclature of organic compounds, refuting the electrochemical theory of Berzelius. "The development of this idea (type organique) into what is sometimes called the "Older Type Theory", as distinguished from Gerhardt's Type heory, is contained in Dumas' importent memoir on the substitution and the theory of types, presented on 3 febriary 1840."(Partington IV, p. 365). In the second paper Stas and Dumas record the first use of 'potash-lime', the precursor of soda-lime, an invaluable reagent in organic chemistry."Jean Baptiste Dumas advances a theory that the chemical properties of an organic compound are determined by its structure and not, as seems to be the case with inorganic compounds, by its electrical properties. he illustrates the concept with the example that the basic qualitative properties of acetic acid are retained even after replacing three fourths of the hydrogen by chlorine. As a consequence, he calls for a revision of chemical nomenclature for organic compounds, basing terms on common features, not on elemental composition."(Parkinson "Breakthroughs" 1840 C).

In october 1836 Wöhler wrote that he had discovered a way to transform amygdalin to oil of bitter almonds and hydrocyanid acis, by distilling it with manganese and sulfuric acid, and he invited Liebig to join in pursuing the topic. Two days later he made a more remarkable discovery. It had occurred to him that perhaps thetransformation of amygdalin could be effected by the albumin in the almonds, in a manner similar to the action of yeast in sugar.Wöhler suspected that the decomposition was an example of what Berzelius had recently defined as catalysis. Liebig and Wöhler then divided up the detailed examination of the properties and composition of amygdalin. They precipitated from the emulsion of almonds a substance which when dissolved retain its action. They named the active substance "emulsion". Its effectiveness in very small quantities confirmed that it acted like yeast."(DSB VIII, p. 342).
