Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. The First Few Feet in a World of Wolves chronicles the fictionalization of the year the author spent teaching in Aupaluk (a remote Inuit community on the Ungava Coast of Nunavik). The second outlines, and explores, the history of oppression experienced by the more than five hundred Indigenous nations across northern Turtle Island at the hands of the Canadian government since the Royal Proclamation. Told through the voice of Nomad, who finds himself very much at odds with the land itself. Nomad slowly learns how to reconnect with his fractured history as he embraces and is embraced by the Elders and his own students. Told is crisp, spare prose, this debut novel brings forward a powerful new indigenous voice to the literary landscape. AUTHOR: Scott Mainprize is a Two-Spirit lawyer and university instructor who has lived across Turtle Island. Primarily working in the areas of restorative justice, criminal law, and Indigenous - colonial history, his work is grounded in the Calls to Action and focuses on understanding where we are situated in relation to our individual, and collective, reconciliation journeys. Outside of professional life, Scott enjoys the therapeutic benefits of performing stand-up comedy, and being put in his place by a wolf and her cat. His debut novel entitled 'The First Few Feet in a World of Wolves' will be published by At Bay Press in the Fall, 2023. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.…

Buch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - Inside of you there is a gift that, once released into the world, will enhance your life and the lives of those around you. You are unique, and your gift is unique, but the world you release it into is very much connected.A Waking Life is the story of Nomad Truestar's journey through the darkness of a single night. After his appendix ruptures, he wakes to the hollow nothingness of isolation. Not knowing whether he will live or die, Truestar begins the quest of confronting the meaning woven into his fragmented life. With the help of a curious quartet of guides, including a wild cat, an Arctic wolf and the woman he believes to be Death, Truestar travels through time and beyond the space he appears confined to, in an exploration of the perceived self, the connected universe and even death. Will he find the Borealis that exists within the darkness itself, before the night is over What transpires is a journey meant to reawaken the human spirit to the possibilities that exist within each of us, regardless of where we are in life.MiigwetchScott Mainprize is a gay, Jain, fourth-generation Algonquin who holds a Bachelor of Education, Master of Social Work and Juris Doctor. He currently works as a lawyer and professor of restorative justice. He has previously taught in Arctic, Quebec, worked in a homeless shelter and AIDS hospice, and has been a student-prosecutor across north-western Ontario. He is not dead; but, he does not have an appendix. Also, he thinks he is funny.…
