Bodley (18921970) was a British Army officer and historical author. After serving in World War I, Bodley left the military and traveled extensively in the Middle East, where he immersed himself in Bedouin life and culture. He wrote several books based on his experiences, including Wind in the Sahara and The Messenger, a biography of the Prophet Muhammad. Bodley also explored themes beyond the Middle East, as seen in Togo, his biography of Japanese Admiral T g Heihachir.

Ronald Victor Courtenay Bodley, MC (1892-1970), a British army officer, lived in Japan in the early 1930s, and was considered by Westerners at that time to be a preeminent source of knowledge on the area, proving to be erroneous on whether the Japanese were building military force prior to World War II. He wrote A Japanese Omelette during his time teaching at Keio University in 1933. Bound in three-quarters modern calf and marbled boards by J. S. Fellowes.
