Not dated - but there is a dedication dated1899. In quite good turquoise pictorial bevel-edged boards with image of two boys pushing a large barrel of liquid with a boy inside to front with gilt and black titles. The boards are even and only slightly marked. There is some cracking to the hinges and the boards are loose and the spine ends are bumped and frayed. The end papers are lightly marked, the rear free end paper has feint numbers written in pencil and the gutter of the rear end papers are split. There is a dedication on the front free end paper. The text block has a black and white frontispiece "from a sketch by the author and many other illustrations by Alfred Pearse, Gordon Browne, G. H. Edwards, T. Downey And Others". The block is loose from the boards, mostly to the rear. The pages have slightly tanned cut edges and some of the text pages have marked edges and other small marks. The tissue guard of the frontispiece is tanned. Fair plus condition. A good reading copy. Without jacket.
