Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. This latest volume in the MoMA One on One series focuses on Clara Porset's Butaque chair (c. 1957), the only object designed by a Latin American currently on view at the Museum.Clara Porset is one of the most important Latin American designers of the twentieth century. Though born in Matanzas, Cuba, Porset spent most of her life in Mexico, and throughout her career as a designer, writer, and teacher, she challenged social conventions during a time that offered few opportunities for the professional development of women. Her designs bridge the functional rationalism of modernism with traditional craft techniques and traditional materials, resulting in a novel type of production. Her Butaque Chair, recently acquired by The Museum of Modern Art in 2021, is the only object designed by a Latin American currently on view at MoMA. In this latest volume of the MoMA One on One series, scholar and curator Ana Elena Mallet explores Proset's idea that the Butaque is a "living design" and broadens our understanding of Latin American design. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.…

Please feel free to ask for particulars and/or additional photographs. . Hugo Lugo was born in 1974 and was primarily influenced creatively by the 1990s growing up. A group of artists working in the United Kingdom, who came to be known as the YBAs, or Young British Artists, defined the artistic culture of the 1990s. Affiliated loosely by their age and nationality, they were a diverse collective of practitioners. A number of the YBAs attended the Royal College of Art and Goldsmiths in London, and were favoured by the 'super collector' of the time, Charles Saatchi. The most well known member of the group is Damien Hirst, and other members included Chris Ofili, Tracey Emin, Marc Quinn, Gavin Turk, Sarah Lucas and Sam Taylor-Johnson (née Sam Taylor-Wood). The YBAs became famous for their use of shock tactics and sensationalism, alongside their use of throwaway materials, wild lifestyles and an attitude that was rebellious yet entrepreneurial. Due to the high amount of media coverage that they garnered, they dominated British art during the 1990s, and their work was epitomised in the group show 'Sensation'. The art world was influenced by a number of trends throughout the decade, and was characterised by the derisive sculpture of Maurizio Cattelan, and sensitive, conceptual advancements as represented in the work of artists including Felix Gonzalez-Torres.
