Häftad, dek. omslag, gott skick. Norrköping [1980]. Diss. 8:o. [iv] + 176 s. Illustrerad. Staden växte snabbt under denna tid. - - - Abstract (in English, the dissertation is in Swedish with a German summary): - - - "The pupose of this biography of the Norrköping city architect Carl Theodor Maim (1815-1890) is to show the position and possibilities of such an official in an expanding Swedish industrial town in the 19th century. The office in itself was an innovation as up till then only Stockholm and Gothenburg employed qualified architects, the smaller towns making do with master builders, calling in real architects when required. - - - Malm was just graduated from the Building Section of The Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm appointed city architect of Norrköping in 1842 and he retired in 1885, a long period of transit indeed. From the fee for each commission he in 1845 was granted a small fixed salary which was raised successively and after the abolishment of the guild system in 1846 he became a building contractor himself. - - - Though Norrköping became Sweden's second largest industrial town for a while Malm did not get as many official commissions as he reasonably could have expected. His most important work for the city was the planning of the elementary schools. He also drew higher educational institutions. Other public buildings include a funeral chapel, an inn, two charity institutions, plans for a new city hall and a church etc. - - - His private works were the more numerous, beginning with a public bath and a hotel. There was a great demand for private houses where he had a freer hand. We note many two-storeyed houses, a couple of manors and a few workmen's dwellings. During the whole of his career Malm was busy drawing and building for the industry in a functional and unadorned style. - - - To Norrköping it was of the greatest importance to have the services during those crucial years of its history of a young and competent architect aware of the new trends in the planning and building of a modern industrial town.".
