Tape running down the insides of the front and rear covers and along the page edge to reinforce the binding, The pages are browned but otherwise clean and unmarked. First printing. Originally a 12-part serial in Modern Electronics in 1911, then a hardcover in 1925 (Stratford: Boston) and again 1950 (Frederick Fell), this is the first paperback edition and was published in England, not being published in the USA as a Crest paperback till 1958. Gernsback is often referred to as The Father of Science Fiction, along with Wells and Verne. Whilst the latter are known for their writing, Gernsback is known for essentially creating the genre as a marketable thing. Although the book has been (rightly) panned for being not-so-great literature, it is highly imaginative with pioneering ideas including solar panels, radar and television and rightly belongs in any collection of science fiction. Good to very good condition; has scratch on lower front cover, ware around outside edges, pages are browning and getting brittle. Being maintained in acid free plastic bag.
