Size 32.5 x 25.5 cm, pp 431 + 18 b&w plates - pagination continues across two volumes, numerous full page diagrams, each plate contains two or three photo illustrations. Text entirely in French. Books condition - near Very Good ; contents clean, no inscriptions, no foxing, no creasing, binding firm ; pale-grey card covers with title on the front and spine ; edges and corners somewhat creased and a bit soiled, backs slightly dusty but with no real marks, spines darkened but the titles remain clear, spine of volume 1 has some loss in the bottom 3-4 cm, fronts are dusty and show some tanning around the perimeters Please see photos for indications of contents and condition. A detailed scientific study with keys for Aspidiotini, Onaspidini, Parlatorini and the Selenaspidus complex, and covering all of Africa south of about the Tropic of Cancer ( excludes Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt ). The main author, Alfred Balachowsky ( 1901-1983) was a French entomologist born in Russia, who specialised in Coccoidea but also wrote on Coleoptera, and became president of the Societe Entomologique de France in 1948. (He was also part of a spy network in Paris run by the British SOE in WWII - see Wikipedia for an informative summary of his wartime experiences).
