It features many popular sites including the Tower of Buddist Incense, Dragon King Temple, the Pavillion, Gate, and Hall of Dispelling Clouds, Kouru Pavillion, and Wenchang Tower to name a few.The Summer Palacewas an imperial garden in the Qing dynasty (1636 - 1912).The origins of the Summer Palace however date back to the Jurchen-led Jin dynasty in 1153, when the fourth ruler, Wanyan Liang (r. 11501161), moved the Jin capital to Yanjing (present-day Beijing). He ordered the construction of a palace in the Fragrant Hills and Jade Spring Hill in the northwest of Beijing. The site covers a little over one square mile and is centered around Cunming Lake, which wasentirely man-made. The excavated soil was used to build Longevity Hill.In 1998, UNESCO designated the Summer Palace a World Heritage Site, describing it as follows."A masterpiece of Chinese landscape garden design. The natural landscape of hills and open water is combined with artificial features such as pavilions, halls, palaces, temples and bridges to form a harmonious ensemble of outstanding aesthetic value."Condition: This map is in B condition with some minor separations along the folds and their intersections.
