This is now widely cultivated in India and world over. But detai…led study on its economic potentialities are lacking.This is an investigation on the phytochemical,antibacterial,antifungal and anthelmintic properties of the leaf extracts. Phytochemical compounds of the plant were qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed. It showed the presence of reducing sugar, flavonoids,steroids, terpenoids, tannin, coumarin, saponin and anthraquinone except glycosides. In the present study, the quantitative analysis of various biochemicals were also evaluated. Of these highest percentage of moisture is present ie. 90% and least percentage of phenol ie. 0.3 mg/g fresh tissue.The plant extracts, Coleus aromaticus in various solvents showed effective anthelmintic and antibacterial effects. On the otherhand, they showed very poor effect as an antifungal agent. By analysing the previous reports and the present studies, the plant extracts of Coleus aromaticus can be used as an antibacterial and anthelmintic agent.

Present study is concentrated on anthelmintic, antimicrobial and phytochemical aspects on Mikania scandens(L.)Willd. The phytochemica…ls of leaves of Mikania scandens(L.)Willd. was extracted using polar and non polar solvents viz, Hexane and Methanol. The antimicrobial activity of extracts were tested against Gram- positive and Gram- negative bacteria and two fungal strain. The essential oil also screened against test strains and show better antimicrobial activity. In vitro experiment was performed to evaluate anthelmintic activity of extracts, using Pheretima posthuma. The polar solvent shows better activity than the standard Albendazole. The methanol extracts of Mikania scandens(L.)Willd. nine compounds were analyzed by HPLC. The essential oil is obtained by hydrodistillation of the whole plant of Mikania scandens , fifteen compounds were analyzed by GC-MS. Various kinds of monoterpenoids, diterpenoids and sesquiterpenoids were the major phytochemicals detected.

It is used for the treatment of various human and veterinary diseases. The present study concentrated on the phytochemical, pharmocological and conservative aspects of Andrographis elongata. The proximate analysis of A. elongata indicated that the plant possessed sufficient quantities of moisture content, fibre content, total ash, acid soluble ash and water soluble ash, loss on drying, alcohol soluble extractive, water soluble extractive, chlorophyll, carotenoid, protein, carbohydrate, ascorbic acid, phenols and flavonoids. The preliminary phytochemical analysis showed the presence of alkaloids, steroids, terpenoids, saponines, Flavonoids, Glycosides, Tannin, Coumarin and phenol in the methanolic root, stem and leaves extract of A. elongata. 184 pp. Englisch.

The were collected from various localities in South india. Of the 26 species 12 members were of the…subfamily Leptospermoideae and 14 were of the subfamily Myrtoideae. The cytotoxic potentials of leaf extracts and phytochemical aspects of essential oils were evaluated. The essential oils of these plants belong to 6 distinct classes of chemotypes. 1. Monoterpenoid 2. Sesquiterpenoid 3. Terpenoid 4. Phenolic 5. Mixed and 6. Undetermined. A total of 77 aromatic compounds were detected during the present study. A wide spectrum of cytotoxic, antimicrobial, antifungal , insecticidal, nematicidal, scabicidal , larvicidal and pediculocidal activities were reported for many of these compounds.Hence the crude extracts of leaves of myrtaceaous members either alone or in combination can be used as herbal pesticide. Since many of the myrtaceous leaf extracts leaf extracts show severe mitotic inhibition on onion root tip meristematic cells , they can be effectively exploited as anticarcinogenic agents. 216 pp. Englisch.
