The text reads: '[.] therefore you will consent to do me a bare act of justice viz not to let that gentleman be my public critic in "the World." Of course I should be still more pleased if you would do me the honor to see the play yourself and pronounce upon it. Each is 3/4 leather over black boards, ornate embossed gilt title on covers, gilt lettering on spine, floral endpapers. Illustrated with 160 color plates. Book 1 is Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 of Birds in Natural Colors, a monthly serial covering January 1897 to June 1897 and having 60 illustrations by color photography. Book 2 is Vol. III and IV, covering January 1898 to June 1898 with 60 illustrations. Book 3 is Vol. V and VI and is title Birds and All Nature with 40 illustrations in color and covering January 1899 to May 1899. . All three books are rubbed on the spine and tips, with two of the books having loss to the leather at the head of the spine, cracked hinges in all books and a total of three loose plates which are tattered at the edges, former owner's name on each title page.
