Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a raw and intimate account of the Civil War through the eyes of a Confederate private. The author, a young man from Tennessee, takes us on a journey from his initial enlistment in 1861 to the brutal battles that unfolded across the South. We experience the privations of camp life, the arduous marches, and the horrors of combat firsthand. The author provides a vivid and visceral portrayal of the conflict, from the camaraderie among soldiers to the devastating loss of life, offering a unique perspective on the human cost of war. The author's voice is both honest and engaging, as he reflects on the complexities of the conflict, grappling with the political and social tensions that drove the South to secession, and the moral dilemmas faced by soldiers on both sides. He also sheds light on the realities of slavery, painting a nuanced portrait of the institution and the relationships between slaves and their masters, challenging the prevalent narratives of the time. Through his personal experiences, the author reveals the psychological and emotional toll that war took on the individual, ultimately offering a powerful and poignant testament to the enduring legacy of the Civil War and its impact on the American psyche. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Neuware - BCR's Shelf2Life American Civil War Collection is a unique and exciting collection of pre-1923 titles focusing on the American Civil War and the people and events surrounding it. From memoirs and biographies of notable military figures to firsthand accounts of famous battles and in-depth discussions of slavery, this collection is a remarkable opportunity for scholars and historians to rediscover the experience and impact of the Civil War. The volumes contained in the collection were all written within 60 years of the end of the war, which means that most authors had living memory of it and were facing the effects of the war while writing. These firsthand accounts allow the modern reader to more fully understand the culture of both the Union and Confederacy, the politics that governed the escalation and end of the war, the personal experience of life during the Civil War, and the most difficult and polarizing question in the history of the United States: slavery. The American Civil War Collection allows new readers access to the contemporary arguments and accounts surrounding the war, and is a vital new tool in understanding this important and pivotal chapter in American history.

Toney was a slavery partisan who became an early volunteer for Confederate service from his home near Nashville, Tennessee. He served with the First Tennessee Volunteer Infantry Regiment in the campaigns in West Virginia, at Shiloh, Chickamauga, and the Wilderness, where he was captured. Much of the interest and importance of this volume lie is Toney's sober and detailed reporting of his experiences as a Federal POW, of the war's immediate aftermath, and of the growth and appeal of the Ku Klux Klan directly following its formation. REFERENCES: Dorn II #998; Nevins I pg 169: "A light, chatty memoir of service in both major theaters; unique illustrations enhance the slim volume.".
