Le récit, enrichi de nombreuses pièces justificatives, est servi par un style d'une constante sobriété. Aucune notation pittoresque, aucune figure de rhétorique ne viennent rompre l'austérité du commentaire, fruit d'une démarche strictement militaire. Signature manuscrite du Maréchal d'empire SOULT, Commandant en chef du 4ème Corps d'Armée (Campagne de Prusse) fait à A PASSAU (CAMPAGNE DE PRUSSE) LE 22 JUILLET 1806, le Texte de La LETTRE est le suivant : Grande Armée 4ème Corps, Au Quartier-Général à Passau (allemagne), le 22 Juillet an 1806 Le Commissaire Ordonnateur en chef Provisoire.Ayant été chargé à Boulogne de la police Générale du Campement et de l'Habillement, comme Commissaire des Guerres, Certifie que lorsqhe le IVème Corps est parti de Boulogne, les Régiments ayant dû rremettre leurs effetsle jour même du départ et les apporter en magasin, il y eût impossibilité de faire la Recette d'aprés les formes prescrites par le Règlement du 12 Brumaire an 12. Son Excellence, Monseigneur le Maréchal Soult, ayant même appris que le départ de la troupe était retardé par l'opiniatreté du Garde-Magasin à exigé une remise régulière, se transporta au magasin et donna l'ordre au commissaire des Guerres de faire exécuter la Remise pour chaque Division, dans une Heure. Il fallut déposer par Régiments les Effets dans la rue et les reconnaitre précipitamment, en présence d'un officier de chaque Corps. Les Conseils d'Administrations ne pouvaient se former pour donner les autorisations exigées par le Réglement. Le Garde-Magasin a sans doute, écrit aux régiments et il n'y a pas de sa faute s'ils ont négligé l'envoi des pièces qu'on réclamait.Le Soussigné croit devoir déclarer que le Sieur Bayart Garde Magasinmérite des éloges pour avoir su conserver les effets au milieu de la précipoitation qu'il fallut mettre dans la Remise des effets de Campement de 40, 000 hommes, il se plait à certifier que pendant les 18/ Mois que le Sieur Bayart a été sous sa Police, il l'a reconnu pour un des meilleurs Employés de l'Armée; aussi, Lorsqu'il a appris que la Réforme des Employés de l'Habillement de la Grande Armée, le laissait sans place, Il Lui a offert une Place de Secrétaire dans ses Bureaux.Signé LENOBLE(commissaire -ordonnateur des guerres, et intendant-militaire).Vu par le Maréchal d'Empire commandant en chef le 4ème corps d'armée.
