During her notable career, Smith was the first Senator to speak out against "McCarthyism", the first woman to have her name placed into nomination for the Pres…idency at a major political part convention, and a charter member of the Senate Aeronautical and Space Committee. In the letter addressed to Lee Saegesser, she warmly thanks him for his efforts in supplying requested research materials from the NASA Archives. The letter is accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Provenance: from the collection of Lee Saegesser, Chief Archivist from 1967 until 1997 in the Washington, DC NASA Headquarters History Office. Certificate of Authenticity available if desired. The letter is clean and bright and the signature unfaded. Size: 7 3/8" by 5". SIGNED. Manuscript.

He expresses his enjoyment of a recent visit, as well as gratitude for the reception given at fundraising dinner, as well as for Bosone's daughter who is "such a good booster". Three invitations for the 1965 presidential inauguration, inaugural ball, etc. Approximately 10 newsclippings and/or pieces of ephemera related to Bosone's time as Assistant to the Solicitor at the US Post Office Department Misc. TLS to Bosone's daughter and son-in-law, from Clarence Beck [likely Bosone's brother] dated 1964 TLS from Senator (of Illinois) Paul Douglas to Bosone, dated 1965. Commenting on the death of Carl Thompson, and expressing his happiness that Bosone is being recognized for her contributions. Commentary by Bosone at bottom in red ink: "Such ingratitude! Carl Thompson was deserving of tremendous recognition. But this is life! RBB". Accompanied by a two page TLS from Thompson from 1936, on "Public Ownership League of America" letterhead, discussing the TVA. One-page TLS from Senator Margaret Smith, dated 1965. Comments on Bosone's appearance on the Deena Clark show (mentioning how Smith and Bosone are in "full accord" on the "three vital issues" Bosone discussed on the show. Ends by saying "Altogether we, you and I, Frances and others must be contributing a little to the young ladies who will follow us like the pioneer women made it easier for us." A note at bottom in Bosone's handwriting reads: "Magaret Chase Smith was a great senator. She would have made a good President of the US. / RBB / May 11- '78". Documents Inventory of Bosone's papers at the University of Utah libraries. Approximately 40 pages of documents related to the campaign finance scandal in which Bosone was embroiled (and investigated by the US House) between 1950 and 1952. Bosone was accused of using government resources (including congressional staff time and federal office materials) for campaign purposes. Documents are primarily various financial statements produced for the investigation, but also includes two newsclippings, and two letters/communications from the investigating body. Copy of the Congressional Record of the 86th Congress, dated May 14, 1959. Bosone is mentioned during a speech by a Utah congressman who echoes Bosone's call for an "Exchange of Mothers for Peace" program. Misc. TLS Copies of two letters, both dated 1950, written by Virginia Rishel (apparently a secretary or aide to Congresswoman Bosone). Includes a letter from Eugen Merrill, Chief of the Communications Branch for the Office of the United State High Commissioner for Germany (writing about the then-tensions between East and West Germany). One-page TLS from a Dr. Jose Jimenez of Puerto Rico, writing Bosone to say how much he enjoyed meeting her daughter, Zilpha. A collection of documents (~10 pages) that appear to be from a trip taken by Bosone in 1960 to Copenhagen/E.
