Octavo, softbound (slick, full-color photo. illustrated stiff wrappers), 124 pp. Illustrated. Near Fine. From Introduction: It is my conviction for all of us to be more familiar with the pioneer. His successes, failures, hardships and the sacrifices that were endured in order for us to gain comfort and the knowledge through them should be most rewarding. It would be my pleasure to go back in time and write of the many memories of El Joean. Some were good and others weren't' so good but this book is not intended for personal memories. It is for the sole purpose in appreciation and consideration of Mr. Joel Bean and those brave men and women that came down in the wilderness of Florida and cleared and tilled the soil in order to build this little community we call home. Indeed, it is most rewarding. Along the way, I'm sure there were many disappointments and discouraging times with the primitive surroundings that the pioneers had to confront, but being one of the few people left that knew Mr. Bean, personally, I'm sure he handled it well. This writer has done her utmost to bring out the facts about this man and his City of Destiny and the pioneers that followed. Most of these facts were found in his own files and from the pioneers that were around at that time. Mr. Joel Bean was a brilliant man. A Man ahead of his time. He was a man of stature and integrity. El Jobean loved and respected him. Florida, Floridiana, Florida History, Americana, Charlotte County, Myakka, Sarasota-Bradenton-Punta Gorda. nslic.…
