Along the way, he worked on 25 voyages in fast clippers, delivering a wide variety of cargo around the globe. When he retired, he wrote everything down, and proved to be talented at narration and description. His tales of far-off places, mixed with his Victorian outlook, are humorous, charming and very interesting. The English writer Marjory Gee pulled his writings together and the collection was published by Stanford Maritime in 1979. For the US market, Stanford Maritime printed additional copies and they were marketed by Norton, as a US edition, although it's the same book. This is a first printing of the stated First American edition. It is plain burgundy boards with silver lettering on the spine. There is no other adornment. The dust jacket is unclipped and has no shelf-wear. There is one dog-ear, on page 39. Other than that, it is absolutely pristine, with no marks in it or on it. …
