Soft cover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: None as Issued. First Paperback Edition, First Thus. Text/BRAND NEW. Illustrated soft cover/NF w/light edge & surface wear & faint creasing to lower front corner by spine. Photographer Herbert Wendell Gleason (1855 - 1937) began photographing late in life; the year was… 1899 and he was 44 years old. That year he set out to record the landscape Henry David Thoreau (1817 - 1862) spoke of. This collection of photographs is presented with texts of Thoreau. Many, though not exclusively, are of Concord, Massachusetts, birthplace of Thoreau and home to Walden Pond. Map of Concord compiled by Gleason in 1906 precedes the photographic essay which follows seasons' time line. The circumstances surrounding this posthumousl publication are both fascinating and celebratory; an account is given in the prefatory sector. A splendid combining of the verbal and visual. Fine copy. Herbert W. Gleason (Photographer) (illustratore).
