Dollar an den Kinokassen ein, hinzu kommen noch die Licensing-Einnahmen. Die Geschichte von Luke Skywalker zeichnet im Wesentlichen den Prozess der Individuation eines Menschen nach, und dies gleichsam mit allen existentiellen Auseinandersetzungen mit sich selbst und der Umwelt, die im Leben eines Individuums stattfinden. Der Held erscheint zunächst als unwissender junger Mann, der sich aufgrund einer Begegnung mit seinem Mentor auf den Weg macht, sich dem Prozess seiner Selbstwerdung zu stellen. Innerhalb dieses Prozesses begegnet er zahlreichen Gefahren und Versuchungen, doch er erfährt Unterstützung und Glück. Zentral ist die Konfrontation mit dem 'Bösen', das sich als sein Vater und somit als Teil seiner selbst herausstellt und dem er sich in offener Auseinandersetzung stellt. Dieses Motiv bildet den Kern des Gelingens seines Individuationsprozesses.
