The third story, 'Pet Problem,' is filled with comical chaos as the main character, Freddie experiences the consequences of disobedience and deception, while trying to hide his new pet from his parents. The book also contains a section of fun activities, that help bring to remembrance, the stories as well as interesting facts that helps broaden the reader's knowledge. The colorful illustrations capture the attention of young children, but most of all, the book is a tool for adults to spend quality bonding time with young readers and pass on meaningful life lessons in a joyful way. Art wrote and illustrated one of the stories in this book over thirty years ago as a bed time story for his young daughters. Remembering how much fun it brought to bedtime for his daughters, he decided to update the story and publish it, hoping to share the fun with another generation. This is the second children's book that Art has published. Art also created an anti-tobacco curriculum. He authored and illustrated the accompanying workbook, and taught the program in a local school district. It's hoped that Stories from Grandpa's Recliner, will create wholesome fun and warm memories for children and their parents.

She begins by thanking him for his 'kind letter and charming gift of your drawings of St. Nectaire', adding: 'as an author my vanity is flattered by your appreciation of "Romanesque France"'. She is glad she has helped 'a certain number of people in getting to know some of the beauties of France', but feels 'something of a fraud about the book as without the help of my friend Mr. Tyler I could never have written it'. It made her 'quite homesick to look at a picture of St. Nectaire again', and she is hopes 'the beautiful churches of France [] have not suffered too much at the hands of the German barbarians. I feel particularly anxious about Chartres and I pray they had the sense to remove the glass when hostilities began'. Unlike Nicholson, and as much as she loves 'the by-ways of France', it will cost her 'a great effort to go there again. I have always defended France and loved her, but her conduct during the present war and her betrayal of the Allied cause will make it difficult for me at least to go back to the country on the old happy terms.'.

This book explores the sculpture dispersed throughout Northern Italy in the second quarter of the fifteenth century by masters from the shores of Lake Lugano and identifies Andrea da Giona as the elusive author of Venice's preeminent sculpture at the intersection of Gothic and Renaissance art, the Mascoli Altarpiece in San Marco. Her previous book, The History of Venetian Sculpture, ca. 1400 to 1530, was named Book of the Year by Apollo magazine in 2018. This is her eleventh book. SUMMARY Over the course of a century and a half more than forty late Gothic sculptures have been recognized as sharing a vocabulary of figure and facial types, drapery, wings, and hair. Despite the fact that all the works date from the second quarter of the fifteenth century, they were widely distributed throughout Northern Italy - from Udine in the east to Venice, Ferrara, Vicenza, Verona, Milan, Genoa, and Savona in the west. Payments for the greatest of these works, the Milanese Tomb of Giovanni Borromeo, name as its authors Filippo Solari and Andrea, both from Carona or its satellite Giona, towns in the Ticino close to Lake Lugano which gave birth to several famous dynasties of stonecarvers. How Filippo and Andrea and their numerous assistants, known generally as maestri caronesi, were linked and what kinds of organizations permitted such wide-spread activity over such a narrow span of time are questions asked here for the first time. On the basis of close analyses of comparable works, moreover, it proves possible - not only to identify the chief among these maestri caronesi as Andrea da Giona (d. 1449) - but to follow his career in Castiglione Olona, Milan, and Venice where he was preeminent during the transition from late Gothic to Renaissance sculpture.
