They were granted by the Clerk of the Ordinary Court. The marriage and date were to be returned on the license to the Clerk who was to record the marriage. This work is a comparison of all extant loose marriage licenses from 1805-1850 on file at the Georgia Archives to the marriage licenses recorded in books. There ar some remarkable differences in the two records in many cases.
