Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Als Friedrich Nicolai seinem Freund Lessing 1756 schrieb, Aristoteles habe sich mit seiner Behauptung, daß die Tragödie durch die Erregung von Leidenschaften den Zuschauer bessere, geirrt, konnte er nicht ahnen, daß seine Kritik eines der originellsten T…ragödienmodelle der deutschen Literaturgeschichte hervorrufen würde: Lessings Theorie nämlich, wonach die Tragödie den Zuschauer bessert, indem sie dessen Mitleid erregt. Die vorliegende Studie untersucht, aus welchen Quellen sich diese Theorie speist. Auf der Basis einer präzisen Erschließung der verschiedenartigen Probleme, mit denen sich Lessing im Rahmen seiner Überlegungen zur Tragödienwirkung auseinandersetzt, werden die Voraussetzungen für sein Modell sowohl in der humanistischen Tradition als auch in der aufklärerischen Erkenntniskritik, vor allem bei Leibniz, Wolff, Baumgarten, Mendelssohn und Hutcheson, identifiziert. Dabei wird gezeigt, daß und auf welche Weise Lessing überlieferte Vorstellungen auf der Grundlage der zeitgenössischen Philosophie in ein neuartiges Modell überführt. Um diesen Wandel zu skizzieren, untersucht die Studie vor allem die Umformung des Affekts von einem rhetorischen Mittel der Persuasion zu einer spezifischen Erkenntnisart, wobei Lessings eigenwilligem Umgang mit den hierfür relevanten Quellen, allen voran dem aristotelischen Tragödiensatz und Mendelssohns Theorie der vermischten Empfindungen, besondere Aufmerksamkeit zukommt.
