Reiner Schürmann (1941-1993) è una delle voci più originali del panorama filosofico della seconda metà del Novecento. Allievo di Heidegger, ha proposto una ricostruzione della tradizione dell'Occidente nella prospettiva di un "pensiero dell'anarc…hia", che valorizza gli elementi di discontinuità e rottura all'interno di ogni paradigma assoluto. Questa è la prima monografia italiana su di lui. Coniugando una lettura attenta dei testi con un'interpretazione dei contributi più attuali della filosofia contemporanea, Martinengo indaga gli aspetti meno noti della riflessione dell'autore, che affonda le proprie radici nell'affascinante bagaglio della spiritualità mistica. Il volume fornisce un quadro particolarmente vivo della personalità di Schürmann, dall'educazione religiosa all'abbandono dell'ordine domenicano, dagli studi in Europa all'insegnamento a New York, dove succedette a Hannah Arendt. Da queste premesse, il discorso si sposta al cuore della proposta filosofica di Schürmann: quell'idea di "anarchia del pensiero e dell'azione" a cui è affidata la possibilità di sovvertire la violenza delle costruzioni assolute che caratterizzano la realtà.
