William Archer Rutherfoord Goodwin (1869-1939), twice rector of Bruton Parish and known as the father of the restoration of Colonial Williamsburg, the man who in 1924 enlisted John D. Rockefeller Jr. to fund the restoration of the colonial town. A few weeks before his death Goodwin asked his cousin Mary Frances Goodwin to revise and combine his two earlier histories, "Bruton Church Historical Notes" (1903) and "Bruton Church Restored" (1907), into this single volume, published posthumously in 1941 and dedicated to his memory.
