Softcover. Condizione: Fine. Softcover. Number 1 of 15 copies signed and numbered by the book artists. A lovely deluxe set of two companion books of illustrated haiku from this important private press, owned and operated by Thomas and Mary Agnes Williams. For these lovely volumes, Thomas was responsible for the concept, design, original illustrations, printing, and binding. Mary Agnes was responsible for the concept, design, orignal haiku, and handset text. Book artist and printer Thomas Parker Williams began creating artists' books in 1998 while also painting. As of 2009 he has limited his art practice exclusively to artists' books. In that year he also began collaborating with his wife, photographer Mary Agnes Williams. In 2013 they started Luminice Press, incorporating letterpress printing into artists' books and broadsides. The artists draw on a range of conceptual sources in creating their books, including mathematics, music, literature, theology, philosophy, astronomy, natural sciences, and Eastern thought. Books by Williams or the Luminice Press may be found in numerous public collections around the country. One of the volumes, titled Spirit, has orange covers whilel the other, titled Earth, has blue covers. Both have subtle mica-printed designs as well as a larger design image on the front cover. They are housed in a case bound with brown bookcloth with a pochoir design. The book covers are Japanese paper over cover stock, with linocut endpapers. The books bindings are modified Japanese stab binding. The books have 13 leaves each on Arches mould-made paper with 10 haiku and 10 color illustrations. The illustrations are reduction linocuts with oil-based pochoir and hand-applied accents. The text is handset in 12 pt. Janson Italic. The printing of the books required over 1000 operations each. In fine condition. Each book closed is 7.5 x 5.6 x.25 inches. Their case measures 8.5 x 12 inches. ARTB/061426. Signed.
