ALL UK PARCELS SENT TRACKED! ALL OVERSEAS PARCELS SENT AIRMAIL, TRACKED! (S/hand, Hardcover, 1931). 1931 1st US edition. 8vo (148 x 237mm). Pp292,map. B/w vignettes. Orange cloth, spine titled in black, b&w vignette of mounted trooper in black on upper board. Snag to top of bumped spine, slight use and fading. Slight browning to… end-papers and edges, 1" tear to rear free end-papers. Good copy, lacks dust-wrapper. The author describes his experiences during the First World War as a trooper fighting in German South West Africa (now Namibia) and his subsequent escape into Portuguese territory. This may seem odd, given that Portugal fought against Germany in the Great War. However, the author gained other advantages by being on Portuguese territory which are explained in the book. An interesting memoir of one of the Great War's more obscure theatres. Chapters include: Trooper and farmer; Triumph and disaster; Hunter and hunter; The big trek. .
