Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book details the results of 150 consecutive radical mastectomies for carcinoma of the female breast performed at the University Hospital from 1923 to 1933. A total of 142 cases have been traced to January 1, 1939 or to death. The study aimed to review the clinical and histopathological prognostic factors in mammary carcinoma. It is significant that 39 patients were living and apparently cancer-free after five years or more, representing an impressive 26 percent actual five-year cure rate. The results suggest that preliminary excision of a tumor for frozen section does not increase the risk of dissemination and may be a valuable tool in determining the best course of treatment. Overall, this book provides valuable insights into the diagnosis and treatment of mammary carcinoma based on a substantial number of cases, offering valuable information for medical professionals and those seeking to understand the disease. Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. First edition. Preface by John B. Clarke. 462 [8]pp. Illustrated with black and white plates. Green cloth covered boards with gilt. Owner's label on the front pastedown, Randolph Langenbach's name stamped on the front free endpaper, an inscription before the title page, the spine slightly cocked, and several tears to the cloth of the spine, very good. Randolph Langenbach is known for his photography and writing which documents the textile mill towns of New England. His association with this book is of note as some of his important work was conducted in Manchester: "His groundbreaking work on the Amoskeag Mills in Manchester N.H. resulted in a series of exhibitions and the book, *Amoskeag: Life and Work in an American Factory City*" ("Art in Embassies" *US Department of State*). Also of note is the inscription (not Langenbach's) which reads: "A premium for getting up club of subscribers for *Mirror & Farmer* for 1877." *Mirror & Farmer* was an agricultural newspaper printed in the region. It seems one of their employees received the book for a job well done; the employee was very likely the owner of the bookplate, M.F. Little.…
