Born in 1907 in the city of Kleve in Germany, Wilhelm Maywald - who later changed his name to Willy - arrived in France in 1931. He joined the circle of artists in Montparnasse , which he began to photograph. Recognized after the war for his portraits of artists, as much for his work on fashion. First photographer of Dior, he photographed his first collection in 1947 and later became his personnal photographer.
