Aggiungi al carrello[PHOTOGRAPH][RAILROAD]. Silver print. 7.5" x 9.5" on a modern museum mount (14" x 17), title in the negative. Strong contrasts. Fine copy. Nice view of the trainyard in Grand Junction. Louis Charles McClure was a Denver, Colorado, based commercial photographer. He was born in Quincy, Illinois in May 1867. McClure moved to Denver in 1881, and beginning in 1884, trained and worked under famed photographer William Henry Jackson (1843-1942). McClure eventually established his own commercial photography studio in Denver around 1903, specializing in cityscapes, railroads, and landscape photography. In his work, he focused almost exclusively on Denver and Colorado.…

Aggiungi al carrello[Colorado] Two L.C. McClure Photos on Board Along the Moffat Road, Colorado. Circa 1908 Sepia toned photos measuring 7.5 x 9.5 inches on 11 x 12.75-inch mounts. Mounts have edge wear and light chipping. Verso is blank on both. "Ranch Scene on the Moffat Road" has soiling in the sky area. Each mount has a slight bow. Otherwise, photos are clean with remarkably clear and crisp images and toning. Very good condition. The Moffat Road refers to the railroad route of the Denver, Northwestern & Pacific Railway from Denver up over the continental divide and on to Salt Lake City, Utah. Construction began in 1904 and reached Sulphur Springs, Colorado in 1905; the line is seen in this McClure photo titled "Sulphur Springs, Colorado--Moffat Road." Exact location of the ranch scene is unknown. Both photos are remarkably clear images evocative of early 20th century Colorado. The Ranch Scene include a sod-roofed log cabin, two-story ranch house, clothes drying on the line with livestock grazing near the house. Sulphur Springs located between Granby and Kremmling on the Colorado River (then the Grand River) has natural thermal springs historically used by the Ute peoples. This photo shows a booming town, with the arrival of the railroad, taken from a bird's-eye vantage overlooking the valley of the Colorado River. Includes a group of people in the foreground plus two bridges over the river and a new train station. Louis Charles McClure (1867-1957) studied with Colorado photographer William Henry Jackson, and followed in Jackson's footsteps with a career made of photographing railroads and landscapes throughout Colorado. He also left an amazing archive documenting Denver of the 1890's through the 1920's. While never as well-known as his teacher, McClure's earned considerable success as a commercial photographer. L.C. McClure (illustratore).…
