Previous folds with some splitting not approaching text, light toning to extremities, else Near Very Good. Receipt made out to a Mrs. H.W. Livingstone, who purchased several yards of Merino wool and cloth, a Hernani shawl, and silk velvet, a purchase totalling $52.50 1/2 (about $1500 in today's currency). The Hernani shawl appears to have been a fashion based on Victor Hugo's play "Hernani," which opened in Paris in February, 1830; by May the following year "Hernani Shawls" were being imported from France to the United States, though the play had yet to be mounted there.…
