From the introduction: "These biographical sketches are recognized by genealogists and local historians as one of the most important sources of biographical and genealogical information for the Kentucky counties they cover. The genealogical information is not limited to the counties in which the subjects of the sketches resided, for in most cases the family history is traced back to an earlier Kentucky county and then to the original thirteen states. All the information from the original sketches is included in the reprint. Families of varied social and economic backgrounds are included. Many Revolutionary, Indian Wars, War of 1812, Mexican War and Civil War soldiers are referred to in these sketches. Daughters of the American Revolution, Sons of the American Revolution and applicants for membership in patriotic, genealogical and historical societies have used these biographical sketches as evidence of lineage and service of soldiers of the American Revolution and other wars.".…
