Gray boards with blue cloth quarter spine with gold spine lettering. It is a feat of considerable skill in seamanship and navigation to cross the greatest ocean in the world, the Pacific, but to do so with apparent nonchalance at over 70 years of age in a 49-foot yacht is truly remarkable. But then Eric Hiscock and his wife, Susan, are a truly remarkable couple. This is the story of their last voyage in the steel ketch Wanderer IV from their home in New Zealand to the west coast of Canada. It contains the poignant observatiosn of peole, places, and seamanship that have made Hiscock's previous books so popoular. On their return, the Hisocks decided to replace Wanderer IV with a smaler wooden, sloop-rigged yacht. The maiden voyage of Wanderer V is not a tale of idyllic sailing. Teething troubles developed in a prolonged period of heavy weather before they were able to reach Fiji. Having made repairs and modifications, they continued to Vanvatu and New Caledonia and on to the coast of New South Walkes. It was only when wanderer V reached Pittwater, near Sydney, that llthe final modificaitons could be made to cure the handling problems that dogged the voyage.
