Der Band dokumentiert auf 240 Seiten die Lebensgeschichten von neun Personen, die auf der Flucht vor den Nationalsozialisten in afrikanische Länder gelangten und deren Schicksale unterschiedlicher nicht hätten sein kànnen. Die Texte sind mit zahlreichen historischen sowie aktuellen Fotos und umfangreichem dokumentarischem Material illustriert. Der Band beinhaltet überdies einen Einleitungsartikel zu den Lebensgeschichten sowie einen Beitrag des Historikers Albert Lichtblau, der viele Interviews mit Holocaust-ÃÂberlebenden, unter anderem auch in Afrika, geführt hat. Er erläutert in seinem Gastbeitrag die Besonderheiten der Flucht ins koloniale und postkoloniale Afrika südlich der Sahara. Er geht dabei auf den historischen Hintergrund sowie auf die der ersten Emigration oft folgende lebenslange weitere Migration ein und befasst sich auch mit dem "Sonderfall" der Internierung auf Mauritius. Volume 3 of the book series "Memories. Life stories of victims of National Socialism "subtitled" Exile in Africa "is the first of a total of four planned volumes dealing with life in exile outside Europe. On 240 pages, the volume documents the life stories of nine persons who, fleeing from the National Socialists, arrived in African countries and whose fates could not have been more different. The texts are illustrated with numerous historical and current photos and extensive documentary material. The volume also contains an introductory article to the life stories and a contribution by the historian Albert Lichtblau, who has conducted many interviews with Holocaust survivors, including in Africa. In his guest contribution he explains the peculiarities of the flight to colonial and post-colonial Africa south of the Sahara. He deals with the historical background as well as the lifelong migration that often follows the first emigration and also deals with the "special case" of internment in Mauritius. language: German, English.
