Nachdem 1961 das Hamburger Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe zum ersten Male in größerem Umfange kaukasische Teppiche gezeigt hatte, entstand der Plan, eine solche geschlossene Gattung innerhalb der zahlreichen Gruppen des orientalischen Knüpfteppichs auch in Frankfurt vorzustellen.
