Die umfassende Jubiläumsausstellung des Germanischen National in useu ms Nürnberg zur 50o. Wiederkehr des Geburtstages Albrecht Dürers 1971 hat seinen Anteil an der Skulptur, der Glasmalerei und der Goldschmiedekunst der Zeit nicht ausgespart, aber nur am Rande dokumentiert. Über Dürers Verhältnis zur Münzprägekunst und dem nach 1518 in Süddeutschland aufblühenden Medaillenschaffen erfuhr der Besucher nichts. Diesen damals ausgesparten Bereich nachholend aufzuarbeiten, ist Hauptanliegen der vorliegenden Publikation. Die Einleitung, als Beitrag zur Dürer-Forschung gedacht, behandelt alle bisher Dürer zu Recht oder zu Unrecht zugeschriebenen Schaumünzen, wobei weiterführende Erkenntnisse vor allem für die Pirckheimer-Medaille von 1517 und die beiden Medaillen auf Johann KIeberger. die mit Dürers Gemälde von 1526 in Wien in engstem Kontext stehen, gewonnen werden konnten. Erstmals mit Dürers Namen in Verbindung gebracht sind die ab 1527 in Nürnberg eingeführten neuen Großsilbermünzen der reichs-städtischen Münze. Der Katalog unterscheidet Münzen und Medaillen von Dürer (Wobei sein Anteil sich strikt auf Entwürfe beschränkt zu haben scheint). auf Dürer und nach Dürer. Beginnend mit den zu Lebzeiten des Malers entstandenen Bildnismedaillen von Hans Schwarz und Mathes Gebel, über die vor allem in der Zeit der sog. Dürer-Renaissance um t600 verehrungsvoll edierten Me- morialmedaillen von Hans Petzolt, Georg Holdermann und Georg Schweigger, verzeichnet der chronolo- gisch angeordnete Katalogteil in möglichster Vollständigkeit Dürer-Medaillen des 19. und 20. Bei fast allen anonym herausgekommenen Prägemedaillen der letzten beiden Jahrzehnte kann ein Entwerfei, Modelleur oder Graveur namhaft gemacht werden, was eine Anordnung nach Künstlern rechtfertigte. Das Buch entstand aus der Arbeitspra-. xis wie der Sammeltätigkeit der Stadtgeschichtlichen Museen Nürnberg und der Albrecht Dürerhaus Stiftung e.V. Nürnberg, die gemeinsam für das Nürnberger Dürerhaus und seine Be- stände verantwortlich sind. Es schließt an frühere Veröffentlichungen des Verfassers an, die seit 1969 zu Proble- men der Dürer-Rezeption erschienen sind.
