This is an out of series copy of the full leather issue, unsigned but inscribed to colophon of volume 2 in the Editor's hand, "for Belinda Norman-Butler." From a well-connected family with literary antecedents notably Thackeray, Norman-Butler (1908-2008) was a social activist and campaigner particularly for musical causes. Her archive is preserved at Eton College, as is the original Little Book. The original Little Book, a modest six-penny notebook, was presented to Marsh (1872-1953) by Lady Diana Manners (later Cooper), as a simple gift at Christmas 1911. Over the course of the next forty years, Marsh filled the book with handwritten poems and short prose pieces by virtually every contemporary writer of note, most of whom he knew personally, including Brooke, Graves, Sassoon, Hardy, D.H. and T.E. Lawrence, and W.B. Yeats. At his death the book contained approximately 100 contributions. Each author receives a short biographical entry in the supplementary volume.
