Rubbing to edges with a couple minor smudges; Very Good or better. One of series of decrees published by the First Mexican Empire following the War of Independence. This particular notice declares that the newly…elected representatives, Diputados, have legal immunity for opinions or orders they issue. The decree is dated February 26, 1822, a few months after independence and just before Iturbide, here named Presidente, was appointed Emperor. One of at least three decrees issued that day, though we only located a single holding of "Num. 1," which concerned civil rights and separation of powers. These decrees were issued throughout the first year of Independence, helping form the foundational laws for the Empire before becoming the First Mexican Republic in 1824. Other contemporary decrees declare independence, establish crests, taxes, and holidays, and announce the "appointment" of the emperor. All similar decrees are scarce in retail and each with only one or two holdings in OCLC.
