Meyer, der seine eigenen Werke auch unter dem Namen Munkepunke veröffentlichte, lebte als Bohémien und war außerdem Gastrosoph, Gourmet und Liebhaber aller kulinarischen, daneben aber als Bücherfreund auch aller bibliophilen Genüsse. Als Verleger erlangte er vor allem als Entdecker, Förderer und Herausgeber frühexpressionistischer Dichter Bedeutung, so gab er z.B. Werke von Else Lasker-Schüler, Heinrich Lautensack, Gottfried Benn, Yvan Goll u.a. heraus. In seinem Verlag erschienen außerdem die ersten deutschen Übertragungen der "Futuristischen Dichtungen" Filippo T. Marinettis und des Surrealisten Guillaume Apollinaire sowie Joachim Ringelnatz' erste drei Gedichtbände. Allerdings gehörte er dann 1933 auch zu den 88 Schriftstellern, die das "Gelöbnis treuester Gefolgschaft" für Hitler unterzeichneten(!) und hatte ab 1935 leitende Funktionen in der Reichsschriftumskammer inne. Wobei er diese Positionen wohl auch nützte um bedrohten Kollegen zu helfen wie z.B. Jochen Klepper u.a. nach dem Krieg berichteten. Sprache: de.
